Thispaperexploreshowconsciousness-raisingactivitiescenteredondiscoursemarkersinfluencetheacademicwritingskillsofsecond-yearfemaleEnglishmajorsatIdlebUniversity.Usingaqualitativemethodology,thestudyemployedclosetestsandanalysisofwrittenessaystoexaminechangesinstudents’writing.Resultsindicatedthattheseactivitiespositivelycontributedtoimprovingstudents’abilitytousediscoursemarkerseffectively,leadingtomorecoherentandstructuredacademicwriting.Basedonthesefindings,thestudyrecommendstheintegrationofsuchactivitiesintoacademicwritingcoursestoenhancestudents’writingcompetenceanddiscourseawareness.
